How do you like the larger printissue with all the events,
news, and photos? If you do . . . each month when you read
through the pages of The Gazette, take some time to review
our advertiser information. It is the independent businesses
that support this paper with their advertising who bring you
all the articles, history, information and photographs in each
issue. To show your appreciation, when visiting their places
of business, please thank them for bringing 8,000 readers The
Gazette each month. And thank YOU, enthusiastic readers!
Our committee has been gearing up for the Tenth
Annual Dutch Oven CookOff in Glenwood on March 31, and it's almost time!
Thanks to our sponsors … Ace Hardware, The Gazette,
and Western Bank … for sweetening the cooks' winnings … and
to Rough Country for sponsoring the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.
Sincere appreciation for the help, expertise and guidance from
committee members and helpers . . . Cathy Murphy (along with
friends and youngster volunteers of Glenwood), Judy O'Loughlin,
Marcia Carlson, Bobbi and Jon Dodson, Mickey and Rawlings Lemon,
Linda Locklar, Leah Jones, Gale Moore, Pat and Dusty Hunt,
Wanda MacInnis, Arley Howard, and others!
We're looking forward to many cooks and team signing
up this year to cook and compete. We've put a lot of
effort and enthusiasm into making this Tenth Annual Dutch
Oven CookOff the best yet! Photos on this month's print cover
are from previous Cook-Offs, to inspire more cooks to come
join us this year! Pictured are Grant Smith, makin’ biscuits
at his chuckbox, and JoAnn Remondini, riding her chuckwagon
into camp.
During March, Twin Sisters Cycling & Fitness at 303 North
Bullard in Silver City generously offered to create a window
display for our Dutch Oven Cook-Off … so stroll by and
take a look! (Thanks, Annie and Zeke!) This display will hopefully
inspire amateur and old-hand cooks to come cook with us this
year!
Recipes scattered throughout the print issue include a few
for Easter (early next month, on April 8), and some to celebrate “Erin
Go Bragh!” on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17.
The closing date for the April Gazette will be March 20. Please
advertise whenever possible, and let our readers know about
your business and services — in and far beyond your own
region.
The Gazette website ~ www.glenwoodgazette.com ~ will only
be updated with the Regional Calendar and some Dutch Oven Cook-Off
information during March, while webmaster Lif Strand is out
of town.
Steins Ghost Town may reopen sometime soon in May, as announced
in early February in the Silver City Sun-News. I'll follow
up on this and let everyone know as soon as I can.
Thank you for supporting The Gazette, now in its twelfth year
. . . which enjoys an enthusiastic readership from locals and
travelers alike.
See you down the road ...
